LIGO

I have always wanted to tour some of the world's cutting-edge research centers and LIGO is certainly one of them. LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) has two (2) major facilities; one in Louisiana and another in Hanford, Washington. LIGO is trying to detect the very fluctuations of space-time caused by interactions such as two stars orbiting each other. Yes; you read that correctly. Fluctuations in space and time. It is really too hard to fathom how gorgeous physics can be some times and LIGO is one of Botticelli's Venus. Read more here.
